CELEBRATO IL CAPITOLO NAZIONALE DEL GRAN PRIORATO DI AUSTRALIA

Si è tenuto a Melbourne il Capitolo Nazionale del Gran Priorato d’Australia.

Una commovente Veglia del venerdì sera ha introdotto nell’Ordine otto postulanti. La cerimonia si è tenuta nella chiesa cattolica di Nostra Signora del Monte Carmelo ad Albert Park. L’omelia è stata pronunciata dal Cappellano Nazionale in carica, il Canonico Dr. Ray Cleary AM ChLJ OMLJ.

I cappellani delle Commende hanno guidato le meditazioni sulle Beatitudini, seguite dal canonico Ray che ha fatto prestare il giuramento di fedeltà ai postulanti. Questo è stato seguito da una cena tenuta presso l’Australian Club nel centro di Melbourne.

La mattina del sabato è stata occupata dall’Assemblea Generale Annuale del Capitolo Nazionale (AGM) e dalle riunioni associate del Cancelliere e del Consiglio Nazionale, tenute nella St. Joseph’s Parish Hall, a Port Melbourne. Un’interessante collezione privata di paramenti ecclesiastici era in mostra.

I punti salienti delle riunioni sono state le raccomandazioni per ampliare la portata e la funzionalità del sito web del Gran Priorato e la decisione unanime del Consiglio Nazionale di raccomandare al Gran Maestro che l’attuale Gran Priore (Hon. Chev. Gavin Fielding AM GCLJ KMLJ) e il Cancelliere (Chev. David Slater AM KCLJ OMLJ) siano rinominati per un secondo mandato nei loro ruoli. La Referendaria (Hon. Dame Margaret White AO DCLJ CMLJ SCrLJ) si è ritirata in occasione del raduno e il Consiglio Nazionale ha raccomandato al Gran Maestro di nominare Anthony Gissing CLJ come suo successore. Dopo nove anni come Segretario Generale (Chev. Peter Bennison OAM KCLJ CMLJ) è andato in pensione e il suo successore è la signora Bernadette Azizi CLJ. Il Chev. Dr John Donovan ED KLJ OMLJ è andato in pensione come Almoner Nazionale e gli è succeduta la signora Margaret Heathcote CLJ. E‘ stato presentato il rapporto finanziario dell’Ordine, insieme alle relazioni di tutti i portatori di cariche e di tutte le commende di Stato. L’AGM non ha sollevato questioni controverse ed è stata condotta con competenza dal Gran Priore. E‘ stato deciso che il Gran Priorato d’Australia farà una donazione di 10.000 dollari australiani al Progetto Ospedaliero Internazionale.

Il sabato sera il servizio di investitura si è tenuto presso la chiesa anglicana di San Pietro, Eastern Hill, ai margini del CBD di Melbourne. Questo servizio includeva l’investitura degli otto postulanti, la promozione di undici membri a Commendatore, la promozione di cinque Commendatori a Dama o Cavaliere e la promozione del Cancelliere a Cavaliere Commendatore. Il Cappellano Nazionale è stato promosso a Commendatore Ecclesiastico. Sei membri sono stati ammessi al Companionate of Merit. Il sermone è stato pronunciato dal Cappellano Nazionale, il Rev.do Richard Hurford OAM KStJ ECLJ.

Il servizio è stato seguito da un’eccellente cena capitolare al Lyceum Club, dove i discorsi sono stati presentati dal Chev John Molnar OAM KLJ OMLJ, Presidente della Commenda di Vittoria (l’ospite), il Gran Priore (Hon. Chev. Gavin Fielding AM GCLJ KMLJ), il Cancelliere (Chev. David Slater AM KCLJ OMLJ) e il Right Rev.do Dr Peter Hollingworth AC OBE ChLJ GCMLJ, già Governatore Generale dell’Australia e Primate della Chiesa Anglicana di Australia. Era presente anche il Gran Priore Emerito Dame Primrose, Lady Potter AC GClrLJ GCLJ DGCMLJ GCrLJ GMLJ.

Nonostante le limitazioni imposte dalla pandemia, l’opportunità per i membri di incontrarsi faccia a faccia e di godere di una comunione significativamente ritardata è stata molto apprezzata da tutti i partecipanti.

NATIONAL CHAPTER CELEBRATED OF THE GRAND PRIORY OF AUSTRALIA

National Chapter of the Grand Priory of Australia held in Melbourne.

A moving Vigil service on the Friday evening introduced eight postulants to the Order. This was held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Albert Park. The Homily was delivered by the Acting National Chaplain, Canon Dr. Ray Cleary AM ChLJ OMLJ.

The Commandery Chaplains led the Meditations on the Beatitudes, followed by Canon Ray taking the Oath of Allegiance from the Postulants. This was followed by a dinner held at the Australian Club in central Melbourne.

Saturday morning was occupied by the National Chapter Annual General Meeting (AGM) and associated meetings of the Chancellor and the National Council, held in St. Joseph’s Parish Hall, Port Melbourne. An interesting private collection of ecclesiastical vestments was on show.

Highlights of the meetings were recommendations to widen the scope and functionality of the Grand Priory website and the unanimous decision of the National Council to recommend to the Grand Master that the current Grand Prior (Hon Chev Gavin Fielding AM GCLJ KMLJ) and Chancellor (Chev David Slater AM KCLJ OMLJ) be re-appointed to serve a second term in their roles. The Referendary (Hon Dame Margaret White AO DCLJ CMLJ SCrLJ) retired at the gathering and National Council has recommended that the Grand Master appoint Mr Anthony Gissing CLJ to succeed her. After nine years as Secretary-General (Chev Peter Bennison OAM KCLJ CMLJ) retired and his successor is Mrs Bernadette Azizi CLJ. Chev Dr John Donovan ED KLJ OMLJ retired as National Almoner and Mrs Margaret Heathcote CLJ has succeeded him. The financial report of the Order was presented along with reports from all office bearers and all State commanderies. The AGM raised no controversial matters and was expertly led by the Grand Prior. It was agreed that the Grand Priory of Australia would make a donation of A$10,000 to the International Hospitaller Project.

On Saturday evening the Investiture service was held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Eastern Hill on the edge of the Melbourne CBD. This service included the Investiture of the eight Postulants, the promotion of eleven members to Commander, the promotion of five Commanders to Dame or Knight and the promotion of the Chancellor to Knight Commander. The National Chaplain was promoted to Ecclesiastical Commander. Six members were admitted to the Companionate of Merit. The sermon was delivered by the National Chaplain, the Right Rev’d Richard Hurford OAM KStJ ECLJ.

The service was followed by an excellent Chapter dinner at the Lyceum Club, where speeches were presented by the Chev John Molnar OAM KLJ OMLJ, President of the Victorian Commandery (the Host), the Grand Prior (Hon Chev Gavin Fielding AM GCLJ KMLJ), the Chancellor (Chev David Slater AM KCLJ OMLJ) and the Right Rev’d Dr Peter Hollingworth AC OBE ChLJ GCMLJ, formerly Governor-General of Australia and Primate of the Anglican Church of Australia. Also present was Grand Prior Emerita Dame Primrose, Lady Potter AC GClrLJ GCLJ DGCMLJ GCrLJ GMLJ.

Despite the constraints imposed by the pandemic, the opportunity for members to meet face-to-face and enjoy significantly delayed fellowship was much appreciated by all attendees.
